RADFORD, Va. – The reigning NorPac East Player and Offensive Player of the Year, Davidson junior Finley Amato, was named the NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday.
Amato scored two unanswered goals to lead Davidson past Longwood, 2-1 Saturday in the Wildcats' first NorPac conference match of the year. Amato scored in the ninth minute to tie the game at 1-1, and broke the tie in the 62nd minute with an unassisted goal.
This is Amato's fifth-career NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week award. She claimed it three times in 2010 en route to taking NorPac East Player and Offensive Player of the Year honors after scoring a conference-leading, Davidson-record 39 points. Amato first earned the honor this season after tallying a goal and an assist against No. 16 Louisville in early September.
Amato leads the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points on six goals and three assists, and has scored four goals in her last four games.
The Wildcats will play another NorPac conference game Tuesday night at Appalachian State and then play their next three games on the road. Their next home match is Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. against Liberty.
