RADFORD, Va. – Sarah Fisher's career-high nine saves in a shutout victory over Lafayette earned the Davidson field hockey goalkeeper her first NorPac East Defensive Player of the Week award, announced the conference office Tuesday.
The shutout was Fisher's second of the season and the team's third in just four games.
Fisher began the weekend by preserving a one-goal lead for Davidson against Towson in the Wildcats' home opener Saturday, making four stops. The Fredericksburg, Va. native then shined against a strong Lafayette team Sunday, which had scored twice against No. 6 Wake Forest the previous day. Lafayette outshot Davidson 6-3 in the first half, but Fisher kept the Leopards off the scoreboard, as the 'Cats' lead did not extend beyond one until the waning minutes of the match.
In four games this season, Fisher has made 18 saves and allowed just two goals for a 0.51 goals against average.
The Wildcats look to remain undefeated when they travel to William & Mary Friday for a 4 p.m. game, before taking on Penn in a neutral-site game Sunday at 2 p.m.
