RADFORD, Va. – Senior Jennie Mostellar's back-to-back multi-goal performances during Davidson field hockey's opening weekend earned her NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Mostellar (New Bern, N.C.) scored four of the Wildcats' 10 goals in 5-0 wins over Bryant (Aug. 27) and St. Francis (Aug. 28) in Washington, D.C. Against Bryant, Mostellar registered two goals and an assist before scoring the first two goals of the game against St. Francis.
“She did a great job of finding the back of the cage this weekend,” said head coach Ginny Sutton Turner. “She worked hard in the circle and generated a lot of movement up top. She didn't do anything fancy, but she played smart and solid, which put her in the right spot at the right time to finish.”
Dating back to last season, Mostellar has scored eight goals and three assists for 19 points in the last six games. The Wildcats have also claimed the last two NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week awards, as the final honoree in 2009 was current Davidson senior Ellie Szykowny (Columbus, Ohio).
This is the first time Mostellar has been recognized as the conference's top offensive player of the week. She was named to the All-NorPac second team in 2009.
The Wildcats will open their home slate Saturday against Towson, beginning at 12 p.m. at Belk Turf Field.
