MANHEIM, Pa. - After guiding Davidson to its first NCAA Wrestling Championship appearance in 11 years, head wrestling coach Bob Patnesky has been selected to attend the elite NWCA College Coaches Leadership Academy.
The National Wrestling Coaches Association, through a collaborative effort with internationally renowned coaching development expert, Dr. Dan Gould at Michigan State University, has constructed a gold standard leadership program to help college coaches improve all facets of their program. Patnesky will join coaches from all around the country in Delray Beach, Fla., August 4-5.
Patnesky most recently completed his sixth season as Davidson College's head coach and already ranks third in all-time victories. Under his guidance this past season, Alex Radsky became Davidson's first individual Southern Conference wrestling champion in 41 years and the first to go to the NCAA tournament in 11 years.
Davidson has also ranked among the best in the nation academically under Patnesky's tutelage, finishing in the NWCA's Division I All-Academic Top 30 the past five years. The 'Cats were ranked 25th in 2006, 11th in 2007 and 2008, and improved to fifth in 2009 and 2010.
A High School National finalist, Patnesky was a three-year starter at West Virginia, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 2001. The three-time NCAA qualifier is the all-time winningest wrestler in his weight class at West Virginia.
