RADFORD, Va. – Sophomore Finley Amato claimed the final NorPac East Player of the Week award of the 2010 season after helping Davidson field hockey clinch the division title with three goals and an assist in a pair of conference wins Friday and Sunday, the conference office announced Monday.
After giving the Wildcats (13-6, 5-1 NorPac) a 1-0 lead Friday against Radford, Amato (Lake Forest, Ill.) scored the overtime-winner to give Davidson a 3-2 win and guarantee at least a share of the NorPac East Division title. Amato added a goal and an assist Sunday against Appalachian State as Davidson cruised to a 6-1 victory to earn their first outright division title and finish with a program-best 5-1 NorPac record.
The honor is her third of the season, as she was previously recognized for the week of September 20-26 after scoring two goals and an assist in close wins over Richmond and Georgetown and the week of October 4-10 after scoring a pair of goals in a 5-3 win over Brown.
Amato leads the NorPac in scoring with 15 goals and five assists for 35 points. She needs just one more point to tie the Davidson single-season record for points scored.
Davidson will host the NorPac Conference Tournament Thursday-Saturday and enter as the East Division's top seed. The Wildcats will play the fourth seed from the West Division, Pacific, in the first round Thursday at 4 p.m.
