The first set was back and forth with nine ties early, until with the set knotted at 16, the Cougars put together a 3-0 run, including a pair of kills from Phillips, to take a 19-16 lead and force Davidson into a timeout. The Wildcats battled back and a kill from Peele put them within a score, 19-18, before the Cougars had their first set-point chance with a 24-22 lead. Back-to-back kills from junior opposite Erin Lupfer and Perzinski knotted the set at 24, but Charleston won the next two for the 26-24 win in the opening set.
After an ace from sophomore Molly Crenshaw, Perzinski put Davidson up 12-6 to start the second set. Charleston put together a 4-0 run to cut Davidson's lead to three, 13-10, but the Wildcats held, until an ace from Lawson gave Davidson an 18-13 advantage and forced the Cougars into a timeout. Charleston made one final push, cutting the 'Cats' lead to three again, 21-18, but a kill from Benedict, who combined with Lawson for a block in the next play, put the game in hand as Davidson evened the set with the 25-18 win.
