DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson field hockey team will host a pair of matches this week on Belk Turf Field. UC Davis will challenge the Wildcats at 6 p.m. on Thursday night, while regional foe Catawba will visit on Saturday at 12 p.m.
For those that cannot attend the match, live stats are available here.
Scouting the Wildcats: Davidson is currently 2-8, 0-2 NorPac East, and looking to break out of a seven-match losing streak. Three of their losses have come to nationally ranked opponents, including two of the top-three teams in the country in No. 2 North Carolina and No. 3 Wake Forest. The 'Cats have also come up just short in their two conference matches, falling to Appalachian State and, in their last outing, Longwood by identical 3-2 scores. Junior Courtney Tobe tallied her first goal of the season at Longwood on Sunday. Freshman Finley Amato added her second and moved into a three-way tie for the team scoring lead with junior Ellie Syzkowny and fellow classmate and Lake Forest High School graduate, Annie Evans.
Scouting the Aggies: UC Davis is 3-6, 0-2 NorPac West and is also slumping as of recent. After winning their first three matches, the Aggies have dropped their last six. UC Davis and Davidson share just one common opponent in New Hampshire, with UNH prevailing over both. The Aggies are in their first year as a varsity program. Goalkeeper Lauren Sawvelle is third in the conference with 6.44 saves per game and is the most recent West Defensive Player of the Week honoree. Lindsey Valadez leads the team with five points (2 goals, 1 assist).
Scouting the Lady Indians: Located in nearby Salisbury, N.C., Catawba is off to a 1-7 start. The independent Division II team fell to NorPac East member Appalachian State, 3-0 on Sunday. Jillian Parisi leads the team in scoring with 11 points (5g, 1a).
The Series: This will be the first-ever field hockey meeting between UC Davis and Davidson. The 'Cats are 41-16 all-time against Catawba, winning 5-0 last season. The Wildcats have won the last 11 meetings
Up Next: Davidson will travel to Richmond to face Saint Louis on Oct. 10 and Virginia Commonwealth on Oct. 11. Both matches are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
