CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Sporting News has named Stephen Curry to its college basketball All-Decade second team in a 14-page tribute to the players, coaches and teams of the 2000s in the new issue of the magazine, which arrives this week at all Barnes & Noble, Borders and Hudson Retail outlets.

The magazine honored one athlete in each sport and enlisted the help of teammates, coaches and legends.

Curry was named the 2008 College Athlete of the Year by The Sporting News. He led his team to a 34-3 record in the 2008 calendar year, including a nation-leading 25-game winning streak, and led the Wildcats to the Midwest Regional final of the NCAA Tournament, where he was named the regional's Most Outstanding Player.

He averaged 32 points a contest during the memorable Elite Eight run and became the fourth player in NCAA history to score 30 or more points in his first four NCAA Tournament games, joining Clyde Lovellette of Kansas, Jerry Chambers of Utah and Glenn Robinson of Purdue (30 vs. Maryland in 2007; 40 vs. Gonzaga, 30 vs. Georgetown, 33 vs. Wisconsin in 2008).

Curry was a two-time consensus All-America selection, earning first-team honors in 2009 after becoming the first Davidson player to lead the nation in scoring at 28.6 points a game. He ranks 25th on the NCAA Division I career scoring list with 2,635 points and fourth in career 3-pointers with 414. He set the NCAA single-season record with 162 3-pointers in 2007-08.

Curry was selected seventh by the Golden State Warriors in the 2009 NBA draft. The Warriors open their preseason schedule against the LA Clippers Sunday, Oct. 4.

He joins Dwyane Wade (Marquette), Shane Battier (Duke), Blake Griffin (Oklahoma) and Emeka Okafor (Connecticut) on the All-Decade second team. Jason Williams (Duke), Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph's), Kevin Durant (Texas), Joakim Noah (Florida) and Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina) were named to the first team.
