
Field Hockey Welcomes Five Newcomers

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson field hockey head coach Ginny Sutton welcomes five new student-athletes to the Wildcat program for the upcoming 2009 fall season.
“We are extremely excited about this incoming class,” Sutton said. “Their skill level and enthusiasm will challenge the current team to be better players immediately. All five of these athletes come with exceptional high school careers and various academic and athletic accolades. They all embody the Davidson ideal with interest and commitment to academics, leadership, service, honor and athletics.”
“The 2009 team will have the dedication and heart needed for the challenges of a tough schedule and I am excited to see where we can take Davidson College Field Hockey,” she added.
Madison Parrish
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Hometown: Chester, Va.
High School: Thomas Dale
Prep/Personal: Started every game of her high school career, helping lead her team to a combined four-year record of 87-5-1 ... Advanced to the Virginia state quarterfinals three consecutive seasons ... Was named team captain prior to her senior year ... Earned All-Richmond Metro, All-Region, and All-District team honors for a pair of seasons, and was a Second Team All-State member as a senior ... Competed in the 2007 AAU Junior Olympics, while also taking part in the 2007 and 2008 USFHA National Championship Tournament ... Selected for 2008 and 2009 USFHA Elite Program ... Davidson Class of 2013 Bryan Scholar ... Was Valedictorian of her high school graduating class.
Coach Sutton: “Madison is an extremely hard working defender who constantly talks to her teammates on the field. She has solid skills and great decision making. Her enthusiasm and determination will lead her to make a positive impact on our team.”
Annie Evans
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Lake Forest, Ill.
High School: Lake Forest
Prep/Personal: Three-year varsity starter ... Was a member of the two-time State Champion squad ... Named Illinois State Player of the Year following her senior season ... Team MVP ... Member of the state All-Academic Team ... Also was a four-year starter on the soccer team, captaining the team for three seasons, and winning MVP as a junior while also being named All-State.
Coach Sutton: “Annie is a very skillful player with patience and a strong work ethic. Her play is always consistent and creative as she works end line to end line. Annie's natural athleticism and strength on the ball will help our midfield tremendously next fall.”
Finley Amato
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Lake Forest, Ill.
High School: Lake Forest
Prep/Personal: Started for three seasons on varsity ... Named to All-State and All-Academic teams following her junior and senior years ... Team was State Champions in 2006 and 2008, finishing second in 2007 ... Was the MVP of the Windy City Winter Select club team ... Also All-Academic in soccer, where she was the starting goalkeeper for two seasons.
Coach Sutton: “Finely is an excellent athlete and will come in with one of the strongest hits on the team. She plays a fast paced game and is a great presence on the field. With a relentless attitude Finley will undoubtedly be an impact player for the Wildcats.”
Sarah Fisher
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Fredricksburg, Va.
High School: James Monroe
Prep/Personal: Started in goal for three seasons ... Three-time team MVP ... Named to All-District and All-Area squads following sophomore, junior and senior seasons ... As a sophomore, recorded 13 shut outs and had a save percentage of .890 ... Helped lead team to 14-4 record in 2007, shutting out 10 of 12 opponents in district play, allowing two goals for a .166 goals-against-average, while earning All-Region honors.
Coach Sutton: “Sarah is an outstanding force in the cage. Her height, athleticism and decision making contribute greatly to the success she finds as a Goalie. She has strong clears and a big voice from the backfield. Sara will be an immediate competitor for time on the field as a freshman.”
Brit Donaldson
Position: Forward
Hometown: Charlotte, N.C.
High School: Charlotte Country Day
Prep/Personal: Three-year letterwinner at Lafayette H.S. in St. Louis before spending one season at Country Day ... Second Team all-conference team member in 2007 ... Helped Lafayette win three league championships in three seasons ... Member of the NFHCA All-Academic squad in 2008.
Coach Sutton: "Brit is one of those athletes who never gives up. Her no-nonsense attitude makes Brit a coachable player and inspires her teammates. She constantly gives 110 percent, trying new skills and finishing every ball in the cage. Brit's determination to improve the Wildcats will provide a spark on the field.”
