DAVIDSON, N.C. — The No. 1-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels remained a perfect 11-0 with an 8-0 victory over the Davidson Wildcat field hockey squad on Tuesday night at Belk Turf Field.
Redshirt freshman Elizabeth Drazdowski scored a pair of goals for the Heels, who remained ranked atop the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Coaches Poll for a third consecutive week.
Snapping a three-game winning streak, Davidson falls to 6-3 on the season.
Rachel Dawson started the scoring for the Heels, with assistance from Katelyn Falgowski and Jesse Gay, two minutes into the game. Drazdowski netted her first goal, on a pass from Danielle Forword, just over four minutes later.
Falgowski pushed UNC's lead to 3-0 in the 10th minute, putting back a rebound on a save from sophomore keeper Christa Goeke, and Laree Beans connected with Heather Kendell in the 16th minute for the Heels' fourth goal.
Kendell assisted on a second straight goal, as Gey scored for the Heels in the 25th minute, and Drazdowski netted her second goal in the 37th minute. Illse Davids and Britt Van Beek (assisted by Meghan Dawson) added the final pair of scores for the Heels.
North Carolina outshot the 'Cats 33-0 and had a 7-0 advantage on corners.
The 'Cats return to action on Friday, as they host the Michigan State Spartans (9-1) at 6:30 p.m. at Belk Turf Field.
