Today's Game
The Davidson Wildcat field hockey team hosts defending NorPac champion California Golden Bears tonight at Belk Turf field.
The Wildcats enter tonight's matchup with a 3-1 overall record and are 0-1 in NorPac play. Davidson defeated Christopher Newport (4-2) and Mercyhurst (10-1) in its first two games of the season at Belk Turf and split results over the weekend at Longwood, downing the Lancers, 4-1, after falling to Stanford, 8-1.
Scouting the Bears
California enters the night's matchup with a 1-1 record. The Bears opened the season with a 2-0 loss to No. 15 Indiana on Aug. 26 and earned their first victory against Missouri State. Junior forward Andrea Lo scored the team's lone goal in the 26th minute to lift the Bears to a 1-0 win in a non-conference match on Sept. 3 at Maxwell Family Field.
In goal, the Bears rely on the tandem of Kelly Knoche and Liz Braasch, who have made a start apiece and each have a 1.00 GAA.
Cal is listed amongst those receiving votes in the latest STX/NFHCA poll, which ranks the top 20 teams in the nation.
Maxwell Tabbed Player of the Week
With three goals and an assist in a pair of matches over the weekend, senior forward Kayli Maxwell was named NorPac Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 11.
Maxwell netted a pair of goals and an assist in the 'Cats 4-1 win over Longwood on Saturday afternoon and scored the team's lone goal in its 8-1 loss to the Stanford Cardinal in a neutral matchup Friday night at Longwood University.
With eight goals this season, Maxwell is tied for the NCAA lead, and she leads the nation in points per game (4.25) and goals per game (2.0).
