DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson field hockey program has announced the incoming class of four talented players expected to contribute immediately to the team's success this fall.
The class of 2011 includes Jennie Mostellar, a midfielder/forward from New Bern, N.C.; Clare Perry, a midfielder/defender from Winston-Salem, N.C.; Ellie Szykowny, a forward/midfielder from Columbus, Ohio; and Courtney Tobe, a forward from Prospect, Ky.
"This incoming class is skilled, quick and dedicated," Thompson said. "I look forward to the energy and enthusiasm they will bring to this program."
Jennie Mostellar
Position: Midfielder/Forward
Hometown: New Bern, N.C.
High School: Arendel Parrott Academy
Accomplishments: Four-year varsity letterwinner ... National Futures Elite Athlete in 2006 ... three-time First-Team All-State selection ... team MVP in 2005 ... Defensive Player of the Year as a rookie ... 2004 and 2005 National Hockey Festival, U-19 Pool B ... 2003 National Hockey Festival Championship Team, U-19 Pool C ... also played varsity soccer (First-Team All-State as a junior) and JV basketball... senior class president and first chair viola in the orchestra.

Clare Perry
Position: Midfield/Defense
Hometown: Winston-Salem, N.C.
High School: Forsyth Country Day School
Accomplishments: Three-year letterwinner at Forsyth and team captain as a senior ... team MVP as a junior ... two-time NCISAA All-State selection ... two-time PACIS Conference Player of the Year ... two-time PACIS All-Conference selection ... also played varsity basketball (four years), track (three years) and lacrosse (one year) ... senior class president and Wendy's Heisman Award nominee.
"Clare is a strong and solid defender with the ability to counter attack," Thompson said. "She will fit very well with our defensive unit."
Ellie Szykowny
Position: Forward
Hometown: Columbus, Ohio
High School: Columbus Academy
Accomplishments: Three-year letterwinner and JV Defensive MVP as a rookie ... four-year Ohio Futures participant ... team was two-time state champions, district runner-up and state finalist in four-year career ...
participated in Buckeye Fire festival as a junior and senior ... Academic All-American in lacrosse ... also played varsity basketball ... three-time Central Ohio Coaches Association Scholar Athlete of the Year and First-Team All-League as a senior.
"Ellie is feisty with strong elimination skills," Thompson said. "She has the potential to surprise her defense."
Courtney Tobe
Position: Midfield/Forward
Hometown: Prospect, Ky.
High School: Kentucky Country Day School
Accomplishments: Three-year letterwinner and team MVP as a senior ... NFHCA Academic All-American and All-America nominee ... District 1 All-Tournament team as a senior and Second-Team All-State as a junior ... team was 2004 state champions and 2006 state finalist ... JV Offensive MVP as a freshman ... also played JV tennis, was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Beta Club, and received the Yale University Book Award in 2006.
