Will Funderburg Sets Record in Shot Put at Carolina Invite

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Sophomore Will Funderburg had a throw of 47' 4-1/2" in the shot put on Saturday to set a new school record to pace the Davidson men's indoor track and field team at the Carolina Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Funderburg broke the previous mark of 47' 1/2" that was shared by Lee Sutton and Ray Sinclair in 1993 and 1979. His personal-best throw in either outdoor or indoor is 48' 0" which he got at last year's Southern Conference Outdoor Championships.

Senior Douglas Noreen placed third in the mile with a time of 4:19.55, and sophomore Alex Hoyt was ninth in the event with a time of 4:22.24.

Also earning a top-10 finish was the Distance Medley Relay team, who was coming off a school record time last weekend. The team of Hoyt, senior Cisco Morales, sophomore Edmund Neyle and freshman Quin Patton picked up a team-best time of 11:09.49, good for a 5th place showing.

The men's team will return to Chapel Hill for the Carolina Classic on Friday, Feb. 9.
