Brent Ferrell became Davidson's first Southern Conference Cross Country Champion in 1999 and was named Runner of the Year and All-SoCon. He led Davidson in 19 of 20 cross country meets during his last three years, winning three. A three-time Davidson Most Valuable Runner honoree on cross country and a three-time R. A. Fetzer (track MVP) award winner, Ferrell won the Thomas A. Sparrow award following his senior year. He was one of five to represent Davidson for the first time at the Penn Relays (largest annual track meet in the world). He was named All-Southeast Region in 1999 after placing 24th at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet. He earned All-Southern Conference track and field honors in 2000 indoor in the 3000-meter run and outdoor in the 5000-meter run, finishing second in both, and graduated with five school track records. He held the 10,000-meter run school record of 30:14.96 until 2013.
