- Induction:
- 2026
- Class:
- 1969
A two-sport lettermen, Spann played a season-and-a-half for Lefty Driesell on the basketball court, but he starred on the golf course as a three-time National qualifier. After averaging 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in his 24 games for the Wildcats on the court as a sophomore, Spann won the individual title at the Southern Conference Golf Tournament by four strokes in leading Davidson to its second consecutive league title. He went on to participate in the NCAA Tournament that year for the first time. As a junior, Spann helped the 'Cats to their third straight SoCon title and became the only Davidson golfer to finish among the top 20 at the NCAA Tournament, placing 20th with a four-round score of 289. In his senior year of 1969, the Wildcats finished in a tie for third with Spann leading the team with a 148, good for fourth place and another trip to the NCAA Tournament. He was named Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Honorable Mention in 1968.
