Kerry Keith was a two-sport standout, as a wrestler and a fullback on the football team. On the wrestling mat, Keith advanced to the national tournament in 1968, earning Davidson's first-ever points at the national meet with a first-round victory. He was the Southern Conference champion at 191 pounds as a senior, one of only five individuals ever to win a SoCon title. On the gridiron, Keith twice led the Wildcats in rushing, first with 719 yards on 155 carries (4.6 avg.) in 1967, then with 377 yards on 121 carries in 1968. He also scored nine touchdowns as a sophomore, tying the school record at the time. Keith finished his career with 1,378 yards rushing (11th all-time) on 353 attempts as well as 16 touchdowns, plus 19 receptions for 225 yards. In 1969, Keith was presented with the Tommy Peters Memorial Award which recognizes the Davidson student athlete who best typifies the Davidson spirit in athletic competition and campus leadership.
