Gerdy, Southern Conference Athlete of the Year in 1979, still holds nine of the school's basketball scoring records, including 2,483 points, consecutive 20-point games (17), and 30-point games (10). He averaged 23.4 points in his career, was named three times to the All-Southern Conference team, and was selected on several All-American teams. Gerdy was selected by the New Jersey Nets in the third round of the NBA draft. Gerdy has his masters and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio University and is Associate Commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.
