Harry Vance earned three letters each in football, baseball and wrestling and competed as a broad jumper on the track team. He was a part of a small selection of N.C. athletes to earn all-state honors in three different sports. As a guard on the football team, he earned all-state honors and led the 'Cats to wins over North Carolina, NC State, Clemson, Duke (twice) and Wake Forest. Davidson was 13-4-3 during his final two seasons. Vance won the majority of his wrestling matches as a heavyweight and led the baseball team in hitting (.400-plus average) in two straight seasons. In a vote by his peers, he won the Norris Trophy, given to the Outstanding College Athlete of the Year at Davidson. Vance was also elected President of the Athletic Association as well as to ODK (Omicron Delta Kappa) the leadership fraternity and was commissioned a 1st Lt. in ROTC.
