Peters is the twin brother of Tommy Peters, a standout athlete for whom the Tommy Peters Award - Davidson's highest athletic honor - is named. The Peters twins were immediate successes when they enrolled at Davidson in 1941. Like many collegians of that era, both were called to duty in World War II. Tommy was killed in action in Germany in March of 1945. George Peters returned to Davidson, where he was a star in football, basketball, and track and was captain of both the track and basketball teams. In 1947 he was president of the senior class and became the first recipient of the Tommy Peters Award. George Peters is a sales representative for Southeastern Graphics in Kingsport, Tenn.
