The 1957 Tommy Peters Award winner, McRee helped the football team to a winning record each of his final three seasons. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in his career, leading the Wildcats in rushing with 309 yards as a junior and 474 yards as a senior. He also set a then-school record with seven touchdowns and 42 points in a single season. As a receiver, McRee caught 23 passes for 447 yards and six touchdowns. He also served as the team’s main punter, booting 62 punts in three seasons for 2,102 yards. A dual sport athlete, McRee was a three-year letter winner as outfielder and catcher for the baseball team, and still holds a school record with two triples in one game.
