As a student, David majored in economics and was a member of D Club, Sigma Delta Psi, Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Scabbard and Blade and the football and swim teams. He came to Davidson as a scholarship football player. A three-year letter winner in football under Coach William Dole (1963-64) and Homer Smith (1965), David was a first-team All-Southern Conference performer in 1965. Known for being a fierce competitor, he was also the recipient of the Best Defensive Player Award following his senior campaign. David has served alma mater as a member of the Board of Trustees where he chaired the Athletics Policy Committee, on the search committee that led to the hiring of President Carol Quillen, as an Annual Fund class chair, a Davidson Athletic Fund board member, chair of the Board of Visitors and a key volunteer through two of the college’s comprehensive campaigns. In 1993, David was presented the James P. Hendrix Award and, in 2006, he received the Alumni Service Award. In 2006, David retired as CEO of the Todd Organization, a national executive benefits consulting firm, and a leading sales person for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. David currently serves on the Board of Trustees at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and on the Board of Trustees of the Edward M. Armfield, Sr. ’37 Foundation.
