Claude S. Finney ’61 was Davidson soccer’s first All-American. He was the team’s starting goalkeeper
beginning his freshman season, which was the sport’s second year of existence at Davidson. Finney was a
member of the All-South squad for four straight years and earned all-conference honors as a sophomore.
That season, he had one of his strongest years in the goal, allowing only 1.30 goals per game over a 10-
game schedule.
