Bill Iverson '49

Iverson participated in football, basketball and track. He received the Tommy Peters Award in 1949 and was awarded 12 letters during his four years. One of the highlights of his career was a 54-52 basketball win at Clemson during the 1948-49 season. Iverson hit the game-winning shot with 45 seconds to play. He averaged 6.0 points per game as a senior. He also played end in football. As the minister at First Reformed Church of Newark, he opened “Crosscounters,” a restaurant in New Jersey designed to help Newark youth and delinquents. The New York Times called it “sort of a camouflaged rescue mission,” and described Iverson as “a person with a punch.”
