An outstanding runner, Angus McBryde also served the athletic department in a variety of roles following his collegiate years. He is one of just two Wildcats ever to be named All-Southern Conference three times in cross country, and at the conference track championships in 1958, he placed first in the mile. Although he finished third in the mile as a senior, he improved his time from the previous year.
McBryde returned to his alma mater in 1976 as a team doctor, a role which he filled for a decade. But he did not limit his service to the college, acting as president of the Wildcat Club for the 1976 and 1977 calendar years. In October 1977, McBryde was chosen as the President-Elect for the Alumni Association for 1978, then served his one-year term as President of the Alumni Association in 1979. During those one-year tenures, he also was an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees. After his 10-year stint as a team doctor, McBryde returned to the Board as a Trustee in 1986. He also served on the following committees: Finance & Budget, Honorary Degrees, Institutional Advancement (1986); Athletic Policy (1987-89); and Academic and Educational Policy (1990-93).
