GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After a historic 2017 season, Davidson baseball continues to collect postseason accolades, as senior catcher Jake Sidwell was named one of three finalists for the Rawlings/ABCAÂ Gold Glove Award for catchers, the organization announced late Monday.Â
The Gold Glove Awards are presented annually by Rawlings and selected by the ABCA. These prestigious awards are chosen by the ABCA All-America Committee for each Division.
Sidwell, one of only two Wildcats in program history to serve as a two-year captain, joins Long Beach State's David Banuelos and Oral Roberts' Matt Whatley. Sidwell is the only senior selected.Â
Prior to the 2017 season, Sidwell made history after he became the first Davidson catcher to ever be named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List. He was also the only player in school history to be taken in the MLB Draft out of high school.Â
The Windermere, Fla., native will be heavily remembered in Davidson baseball history, when he caught a ball fired from right fielder and roommate Will Robertson, making "the tag", getting the tying run out at home plate in the Chapel Hill Regional Championship.Â
