NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Davidson men's cross country team was tabbed to finish second according to the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced by the conference Tuesday.
The Wildcats return their top runner from the 2015 A-10 Championship, Will Brewster, who placed ninth overall with a time of 24:54.2. Brewster earned a spot on the All-Conference team for his efforts. Fellow senior John Mogen and sophomore Dylan Carmack return as scorers from last year's third place squad.
"Being picked second in the preseason poll says that the other coaches think pretty highly of our team, which is definitely an honor," said Head Coach Renny Waldron. "Our conference has many good teams, and really, there are five or six teams that could probably win it on any given day."
Defending A-10 Champs, Saint Joseph's, placed just ahead of Davidson in the poll, while La Salle, UMass and George Mason rounded out the top-five teams.
"We have a lot of work to do if we want to be on the podium, but the team is embracing that mindset and working towards being the best we can be."
Davidson opens the season Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Richmond Preview Meet in Richmond, Va. The 2016 A-10 Championship returns to Pole Green Park Saturday, Oct. 29 in Richmond, Va.
