
Wildcats Add Transfer Kayla Seymour from UMBC

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's basketball squad has added Kayla Seymour to the roster and she will join the Wildcats this coming Fall as announced by third-year head coach Michele Savage today.
Seymour is transferring from University of Maryland Baltimore County and will sit out this coming season, before suiting up with Davidson for the 2014-15 campaign. She will have three years of eligibiity remaining after the 2013-14 season.
A 5-foot-9 guard, Seymour saw action in 28 games and started two of them this past season with UMBC. She averaged 14 minutes of play off the bench and shot 30.8 percent from three-point range, while canning 72.7 percent of her free throws.
Seymour is a native of North Carolina, playing her prep career at Panther Creek High School in Raleigh, N.C. She poured in 14.6 points per game en route to earning all-conference and all-district honors her senior season. It was the second year in a row she was honored. The guard helped the Catamounts advance to the state tournament for the first time in school history as a senior. Seymour was named the team's Best Offensive Player her final two seasons. Seymour was also an named to the all-invitational first team in the 2011 Glaxo Smith Kline Holiday Invitational as a senior.
The guard, who finished her high school career with 1,502 points, also excelled in the classroom during her prep career. Seymour was an honor roll student, and a member of the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Davidson is coming off its second straight 20-win season this past year. The Wildcats went 22-13, tying for the second-most wins in a season. They have collected 44 wins in the past two years under Savage.
In addition to their 22 wins in 2012-13, Davidson also reached the championship game in the Southern Conference Tournament for just the second time in program history and won the program's first postseason game with a victory at Old Dominion in the first round fo the Women's NIT.
Davidson will be looking to replace arguably the best player all-time in program history in Sophia Aleksandravicius. In her four-year Wildcat career, Aleksandravicius set seven all-time records, including points (1,878), rebounds (1,143) and blocks (339). The two-time SoCon Player and Defender of the Year also set six new single-season Wildcat records and finished in the top-10 in the SoCon record books in eight offensive and defensive categories, including first all-time in blocks.
The Wildcats return nine letterwinners, including All-SoCon Second Team pick Laura Murray, who averaged close to 13 points a game. She was also named to the SoCon All-Tournament First Team this past year after helping guide Davidson to the championship game.
