Women’s Cross Country Set for 2012 SoCon Championships

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's cross country team will head to Charleston, S.C., this weekend to participate in the 2012 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships. The event will be hosted by The Citadel at Laurel Hill Plantation in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday morning.
The women's 5k event will start at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the men's 10k event at 10:45 a.m. Following the men's race, a ceremony will be held to honor the top team and individual performances.
Last season, the Wildcats took eighth at the SoCon Championships with a team average of 18:22.78. Current freshman Sarah Paddon was the top rookie finisher, taking home Freshman of the Year and all-conference honors after finishing 12th in a time of 17:42.20. Teammates Natalie Atabek and Erin Osment also finished in the top 30, taking 26th and 27th, respectively. Osment received all-freshman team honors as well.
UNCG won last season's championship, but were picked to finish second this season. Samford's Lauren D'Alessio boasts the league's fastest 5K this season with a mark of 17:23.40.
The 'Cats are coming off of a second-place finish at the Royal Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte last week. Presley Parkes led the way with a sixth place finish to help Davidson take the runner-up spot to ACC foe Duke.
