DAVIDSON, N.C. -
Sixty-four Wildcats have been named to the Pioneer Football League Academic Honor Roll, the league announced today. Davidson’s total led the conference as 395 student-athletes from the PFL’s 10 teams earned the honor.

Butler (48), Dayton (56) and Drake (42) also had 40-plus student-athletes on the honor roll. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in football at member institutions during the fall semester and posted a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the semester while enrolled full time in accordance with NCAA rules.

Davidson’s total is the highest for the program and has improved in each of the last three seasons. Fifty Wildcats earned the honor in 2008, and 38 were named to the Honor Roll in 2007.

“I’m really proud of the success our young people are achieving in the classroom,” said Davidson coach Tripp Merritt. “The in-season time demands on these young men, especially in the PFL where you are traveling all over the country to play games, are extensive. To have 64 players get a 3.0 grade point average or better is a testament to their work ethic and determination.”

The Wildcats finished the campaign with a 3-7 overall record and a 3-5 mark in conference play. Davidson starts Spring Practice March 30.
